What Kit is (and the ConvertKit rename)

Kit is an email and creator-commerce platform aimed at newsletter writers, course sellers, podcasters and YouTubers. The site says ConvertKit is now Kit (formerly ConvertKit)—same product line, new name. Creators use it to grow a list with landing pages and forms, send broadcasts, tag and segment subscribers, and sell digital products or paid newsletter access without bolting on a separate checkout tool.

Kit’s own use-case pages pitch email as the channel you own when podcast apps or YouTube change the rules: a newsletter between episodes or uploads, Creator Network recommendations, and commerce for memberships and digital products. We only repeat what those pages claim; we haven’t tested Kit hands-on.

Kit plans at a glance

From Kit’s pricing page plan cards and “Compare plans and features” table (checked October 12, 2026). Yearly prices below are for 1,000 email subscribers—the default the page shows. Monthly-billing prices and other list sizes only appear in Kit’s interactive calculator, so we don’t invent them here.

PlanPrice (1,000 subs, yearly)SubscribersUsersAutomations & sequencesWhat stands out
Free $0/mo Up to 10,000 1 No visual automation builder or email sequences Unlimited landing pages, forms and broadcasts; tagging & segmentation; sell products & paid newsletters; email support
Creator $33/mo ($390/year) Unlimited 2 Unlimited visual automations & email sequences Remove Kit branding, RSS campaigns, apps & integrations, Kit MCP, newsletter sponsorships, 24/7 email & chat; free migration
Pro Regular $66/mo; limited-time first year $50/mo ($593 billed first year) Unlimited Unlimited Same automation stack as Creator Subscriber Signals, Growth Concierge, engagement analytics, 24/7 priority support

Swipe the table sideways to see every column.

Kit also shows “Pay yearly—save 17%” on the Creator and Pro cards. The Pro first-year discount is labeled “EXTRA 25% OFF FIRST YEAR” / “LIMITED TIME PRO OFFER”; Kit’s podcaster and YouTuber pages say that annual Pro offer ends November 7, 2026. After the first year, Kit says the plan renews at the standard rate.

Kit free plan: limits and what you actually get

Kit’s Free card reads $0, Free—up to 10,000 subscribers. Compared with many ESP free tiers (MailerLite Free caps at 250 subscribers and 2,500 emails a month), that list size is the headline reason creators start here.

Key features listed on the Free card:

The compare table adds more that Free still includes: a newsletter feed and website, landing-page and form templates, a customizable Kit domain or your own custom domain, unlimited traffic, opt-in incentive delivery, list growth reporting, Free Recommendations and Smart Recommendations, tip jars, paid newsletters, and recurring subscriptions. Support on Free is email support (not 24/7 chat).

What Free does not include (shown as missing on the compare table, and called out as Creator upgrades on the paid card):

So Free is strong for broadcasting and selling, and weak if your growth plan depends on welcome sequences or behavior-based automations. When you outgrow Free, it’s usually either the 10,000-subscriber cap or the need for sequences—not the ability to take payments.

Creator and Pro: how much is Kit?

At the 1,000-subscriber mark Kit displays by default:

By our arithmetic, Creator at 1,000 is $390/year; Pro’s regular yearly rate at $66/month would be $792/year, and the limited-time first year at $593 is $199 less. Confirm your exact list size on Kit’s pricing page—prices for 500, 2,500, 5,000 and 10,000 only appear in the calculator, not in the static HTML we can quote safely.

Both paid plans advertise a 14-day free trial with no credit card required. Kit also offers free migrations on Creator and Pro (rebuild forms, templates and automations).

Commerce, paid newsletters and fees

Kit’s commerce and paid-newsletter pages describe selling digital products, memberships and paid newsletter access inside the same account as your list. Pricing page matrix: 3.5% + 30¢ transaction fee on Free, Creator and Pro, “inclusive of credit card processing fees,” with Kit saying it only takes 0.6% of the total fees. The commerce feature page phrases the Kit portion as “0.6% + card processing fees.” Kit’s help center gives the same figure: 3.5% + $0.30 per sale in US dollars, on every plan including Free, with slightly different fixed fees in other currencies. Either way, plan for roughly 3.5% + 30¢ all-in when you price products.

Paid newsletters (monthly, quarterly or annually) and gated posts are available on every plan, including Free. Kit says payments run through Stripe, with automated failed-payment recovery. Paid Recommendations (promote or get promoted in other creators’ forms and emails) start on Creator/Pro; Kit lists a 23.5% fee on those earnings. Kit’s pricing table lists newsletter sponsorship matching on Creator and Pro.

That commerce-on-Free setup is a real differentiator versus tools that gate paid subscriptions behind a paid plan. Head-to-head with Beehiiv or MailerLite on fees and features: see Kit vs Beehiiv and Kit vs MailerLite.
