Scale and Max are now Lite and Pro
If you’ve seen Beehiiv plans called Launch, Scale or Max, those are the old names. Beehiiv’s October 1, 2026 announcement maps them like this: Launch → Free, Scale → Lite, Max → Pro, and Enterprise stays Enterprise. Beehiiv’s pricing page and help center now use only Free, Lite, Pro and Enterprise. Prices for the old plans aren’t published any more, so we don’t quote them.

Free covers up to 2,500 subscribers at $0; the slider shows Free as “Unavailable” from 5,000. Lite is sold through 100,000 subscribers and Pro through 250,000; Enterprise is custom-priced at every size. Beehiiv’s data file says prices round up to the next published tier, so a list of 1,200 falls in the up-to-2,500 tier.

The free trial
Beehiiv’s help center says new accounts can start a 14-day free trial of the Pro plan, with no credit card. During the trial your account stays on Free with temporary access to many Pro features; the article doesn’t give a separate subscriber limit for trials. Some features are capped during the trial (1 post a day, 10 live automations, 1 live digital product). Others stay locked until you pay: paid subscriptions, custom domains, paid recommendations, RSS to Send, site redirects and the sponsorship storefront. The ad network, branding removal and extra seats aren’t in the trial either. If you don’t upgrade, you stay on Free and keep your content and subscribers. Beehiiv’s pricing FAQ words it differently (“Lite and Pro include a free trial”) and doesn’t give a length; the help center’s 14-day Pro trial is the more specific description.
What Beehiiv costs per year, by our arithmetic
- Yearly vs monthly: across every published tier, yearly billing saves between 12.7% and 16.9%, or about 1.5 to 2 months. Lite at 1,000 subscribers is $708 a year billed monthly against $588 billed yearly, which saves $120. Beehiiv’s pricing FAQ says yearly billing saves “up to 20%,” and its announcement says “up to two months free”; the second matches the tiers we checked, the first doesn’t.
- Pro vs Lite: at 1,000 subscribers, Pro costs $552 a year more than Lite on yearly billing ($1,140 vs $588). At 10,000 the gap is $960 ($2,388 vs $1,428).
- Leaving Free: Free stops at 2,500 subscribers. Lite at that tier is $79 a month or $828 a year; past 2,500, Lite is $109 a month or $1,140 a year.
- Outgrowing Lite: past 100,000 subscribers you need Pro. Going from Lite at 100,000 ($4,788 a year) to Pro at 150,000 ($8,268) adds $3,480 a year.
- A paid newsletter: 100 readers paying $5 a month is $500 of revenue. Beehiiv takes $0. Stripe’s fee at 2.9% + $0.30 per payment comes to $44.50, before your plan fee.
Beehiiv’s pricing cards also show an “Avg.” ad-monetization figure that rises with list size ($39 a month at 1,000 subscribers). That’s Beehiiv’s own average, not a promise, so we leave it out of the math above.
How billing works as your list grows
- Count: Beehiiv’s help center says tiers are set by your total active subscribers across every publication in your account. Active means people you send to who haven’t unsubscribed or been marked inactive. Its pricing FAQ says it counts unique email addresses subscribed to your publication.
- Moving up: you can move to a higher tier at any time. When you reach a plan’s subscriber limit (2,500 on Free, 100,000 on Lite, 250,000 on Pro), you need the next plan.
- Pausing: monthly plans can be paused for up to 30 days, and you get Free features while paused. Annual plans can’t be paused.
- Payment: prepaid credit cards aren’t accepted. Promo codes go in at checkout; affiliate discounts come through the link itself.
- Existing customers: monthly customers get at least 30 days’ notice before the new price. Annual customers keep their price until their term renews. Existing discounts carry over, but discounts can’t be combined.
Which Beehiiv plan should you pick?
- Free if you’re starting a newsletter, podcast or community and don’t need custom domains, automations or paid subscriptions yet.
- Lite if you want to earn: paid subscriptions, the ad network, automations and your own domain, on one paid tier.
- Pro if you need to remove Beehiiv branding, run several paid tiers, use click-triggered automations or RSS to Send, or work with a team.
- Enterprise if you need SSO, dedicated IPs or limits beyond 250,000.
